The Tonale Pass is a very nice connection between Lombardy and Trentino-Alto Adige.
This Italian state road was created in the early 20th century and leads over both the Tonale and Mendel passes. The line of the Tonale Pass is bounded on the south by the Presanella (3225 m) mountain range of the Adamello group and on the north by the foothills of the Ortler group (around 2600-3000 m). From the pass and its surroundings for a few kilometers there are magnificent views to the south of Paradiso (2600 m) and 10-15 km to the ring of the peaks of Adamello (3554 m) and to the two peaks of Monte Tonale (2700 m) to the north 3 km. To the east, the road runs a little steeply for about 40 km, to Clesig (658 m) at the mouth of the Nons Valley, where it joins the country road through the Mendola Pass (1363 m) to Bolzano with its original numbering (42). To the west of the pass, almost 30 km, we reach Edolo (698 m), to the west of which is on the 39th road, the Aprica pass and the Veltlin (valley), and to the south is known for its natural beauty, industry and internationally renowned prehistoric archeological finds. Camonica Valley continues. The west and east ramps are good to drive.
A monument to the fallen of World War I can also be seen at the top of the pass.
