The Fuorn Pass (Ofen Pass) is a high alpine pass (2149 m) in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The Ofen Pass is more than 35 kilometers long, connecting Zernez and Santa Maria.
It got its name from the furnaces used in the ironworks here.
The road is developed and in good condition. Especially driving on the south side is a lot of fun because of the spectacular serpentines.
There is a particularly mild climate around the Ofen Pass. It is one of the driest passes in the high mountains of Switzerland. In addition, the snow line is high here, so the pass can be used all year round.
For the first time since 1923, brown bears have also been seen in 2005, so it is worth walking around this place carefully.
In 2004, the largest spotted mushroom in Europe was found near the pass. The fungus is about 1000 years old and has a diameter of 500-800 meters.
Road 28 leads to the pass from the border. This section of the road, with its length of 39.7 km and a wonderful panorama, provides a real unforgettable experience.
